Chicken Salad & Croissants.

It's over 100 degrees outside today, which means it's July in Oklahoma. I don't know about you, but when it gets this warm, I don't feel like eating a lot, so big heavy meals are out. Several of you have reached out for the menu and recipes that I served at my mother's tea. {and can I just say I'm loving episode five of Brothers and Sisters and am loving the reminder that a girl is never too old to need her mother). I'm thinking of whipping up a bowl of this cool chicken salad for dinner tonight, and I thought it would be great time to share this recipe with you.

The recipe calls for the chicken salad to be served on croissants, but it's also delicious on crackers, pita bread or chips, romaine lettuce, or even in a bowl all by itself.

I love the different ideas you girls are coming up with for showers! I recently coordinated with a group of super fun girls who were hosting a bridal shower. They wanted to have a retro, 1950's housewife-themed bridal shower. The bride loves bright, bold colors, with her favorites being orange, red, and yellow.

Each invitation included a recipe card for guests to fill out and bring with them to the shower.

The invitations had a couple of inserts. To make sure all the pieces arrived to the guests, a coordinating sticker seal was created.

{cupcake toppers}

After being attacked to white sticks, these were placed atop red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese icing. {The cupcakes were so yummy!}

{guest message cards}
In lieu of a traditional lined guest book that winds up packed away in a box up in the attic, the hostesses decided to create a special book. A 12x12 scrapbook sized album was selected and each page was devoted to a guest from the shower. These pages included a picture of the guest with the bride, the recipe the guest brought with them, and the guest's message cards.

These favor tags were attached to goodie bags filled with cookies made from the same recipe.

In keeping with the theme of the shower, the hostesses felt it was only fitting the bride receive a retro apron. A perfectly coordinated apron was created for this special gift.

Finally, the bride couldn't walk away from this fun shower without her own set of coordinating recipe cards. In addition to the apron, the hostesses gifted the bride with a set of personalized recipe cards.

During the Fourteen Days of Love I shared photos from my mom's surprise birthday tea. Sitting next to the tulips was her invitation, but it was a little hard to see. Check it out below, along with the recipe card that was included for each guest to fill out and bring to the party.

fourteen days of love. day 01.

my friend jen started the fourteen days of love on her family blog a few years ago. this year i decided to follow suit on my personal blog as well. as i was typing it up today, though, i thought it would be a fun activity for here as well. i'm sure my family and friends get tired of me posting paper and cards everywhere so i will try to limit my paper loves to here. =)

i am loving recipe cards. i've been in more of a "domestic" mood lately and have enjoyed purusing the pages of southern living, martha stewart living, and even better homes and gardens and have spent time blog stalking my friends and their followers for the latest and greatest recipes.

these handy-dandy little puppies seem to be making a comeback as well. i have had so many requests for personalized recipe cards and know of two upcoming events this month where a recipe will be included in the invitation so the card may be brought as a gift for the guest of honor!
